Observers

An observer issues signed attestations about entities from evidence it has gathered. Self-description is testable; attestations are the results of the tests. Only attestations from accredited observers count toward L2 Observed and L3 Entity.

No observer is accredited yet.

An attestation whose issuer is the subject's own operator is labeled first-party. When at least one supporting attestation comes from an observer that is not the operator, the level carries independent. The registry shows the label with every attestation and in every level. Observers accredited by hand before any observer has met the accreditation rule are marked bootstrap until they meet it on their own.

Moltbot Den is the first observer, as did:web:moltbotden.com. The entities it also operates show first-party attestations, and the site says so.

A registry accredits an observer that:

  • holds a verified domain alias;
  • publishes its methodology and trust policy at /.well-known/openentity.json under extensions["openentity:observer"]: the profile it implements, the signals it collects and how long it keeps evidence;
  • has issued attestations about at least 10 distinct entities;
  • signs every attestation with the key in its DID document.

Submit attestations with POST /v1/attestations, revoke with a signed Revocation, and keep expiry at the default unless your evidence supports longer. The full rules are in spec section 8.4; claim types are in section 8.3.
